Illusion

_DSC6152

All art is illusion. Photography is no exception. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a Rembrandt, a Veronese or a Damien Hirst, it’s illusion. It’s just paint organised in such a way as to create something that we recognize as something familiar or as often the case with more modern art something not familiar. If the person who has created the work is trying to communicate something he or she will be skilful enough to organise the paint in such a way that it communicates a message. Something that we recognize and feel an attachment to. Photography is exactly the same and we should question it in the same way. What you see above is pixels on a screen, reflected light distorted through a glass lens and presented in such a way and presented as illusion as something we recognize and think we’ve seen because in reality how can we be sure we did see what we think we saw ?
